Epimedium membranaceum Perennial Encyclopedia and to fool all yourE. membranaceum is another little known Chinese species with tremendous garden potential. To us, E. membranaceum superficially resembles a clumping E. rhizomatosum. For us, the clump is topped, starting in early May (NC) with numerous 22" flower spikes, each with up to two dozen 2" spider like, bright yellow flowers. The late Professor William Stearn wrote, "Cultivated at Kew, Epimedium membranaceum flowers longer than any other species of the genus."
