The Sacrifice Medal was created in the context of increased casualties in overseas operations to fulfill the desire of Canadians and the Government to provide formal recognition

The Canadian South-West Asia Service Medal recognizes the participation of CAF members deployed or in direct support of the operations against terrorism in South-West Asia

Eligible service under both criteria may be combined to reach the 45-day minimum

The medal is always issued with a bar that specifies the special service being recognized — each bar having its own eligibility criteria

Canadian Korea War Medal The Sacrifice Medal was createdCanadian version of the campaign medal created in 1951 to recognize troops from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom who had given either one day's service (one sortie) in Korea or 28 days offshore during the Korean War.
